Tip of the Month

Warm up tip from Peak Form’s Mitch Shuman, PT, DPT.
Now that running season is gearing up, with the BolderBOULDER not far away, here’s a reminder on the importance of a dynamic stretch warm-up.

Mitch says:
runners“To improve your running strength and agility, remember to build up your overall hip and core strength so that you’re more stable during your run, and don’t put too much pressure on your knees to keep in balance.  And make use of dynamic stretching.

“Dynamic stretches help improve your range of motion while loosening muscles and increasing blood flow.  Your heart rate and body temp go up, getting you primed for more efficient running.

“Some good examples of dynamic stretches: jumping jacks, jumping rope with high knees, skipping for 5 to 10 yards back and forth, and backward jogging.  Remember to start slow and build up!”
