As the year 2020 comes to a close, it’s a good time to reflect on your healthcare team. With so many cases of COVID-19 taking over hospital beds, it’s important to take control of your health. Now is not the time to get sick, as you well know.

We’ve posted before about what physical therapists do, but here are three reasons why you need one as an essential member of your healthcare team.

  • We are qualified to differentially diagnose orthopedic conditions. This means we can determine what ails you, but we can also determine if you need a referral for something more serious.

  • We can help reduce your pain, even if it’s chronic. Maybe you have chronic low back pain or an old ankle sprain that doesn’t feel like it healed very well. Come and see us!

  • We can help you live longer. There’s no magic to this: it’s about using exercise as medicine. The risk of most leading causes of death (such as heart disease, lung disease, stroke, and even cancer) can be reduced with regular exercise. We can give you the tools you need to prevent injury and appropriately design an exercise program that best fits your current needs.

Maybe you have a regular dentist, primary care physician, and massage therapist. Add a physical therapist to your health care team for an annual check-up. “Motion is lotion,” as we like to say. The more you can stay active, the better you’ll feel.
