PEAK FORM PT STAFF:
Meet Andrea Kidd, our Brighton Office Administrator
We take pride in the great group of professionals that make up Peak Form PT.
Andrea (“always up for a challenge!”) Kidd keeps things humming. She’s been a member of the Peak Form PT family since 2007. Her three-year-old keeps her busy, but she manages to make time for all the outdoor activities she loves, like hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, snowboarding, skydiving and scuba diving.
She’s a perfect fit at Peak Form because she understands that people here in Colorado feel driven to take advantage of the natural beauty around them, even if that means having to rehab and injury from time to time.
Here are Andrea’s observations on what makes working at Peak Form PT special:
“All of our therapists are athletes themselves, so they’ve all gone through physical therapy themselves, and understand PT from a personal perspective.”
“The biggest way Peak Form is different, I think, is that clients get to work with the same PT for the entire visit. All of our Physical Therapists have a Doctorate in physical therapy and we do not employ Aides, so our patients will stay with their PT. I don’t know if there’s another area clinic that does that.”
“When it comes to the Employment testing side of the business, we’re a one stop shop. The whole staff is certified in several different testing procedures, from audiometric testing to respiratory and pulmonary function. We try our best to make all of the testing needs for a company as easy as possible, by getting everything done in one spot.
“Working here, we all look out for one another. We’re a tight family of friends and that makes it all worthwhile.”
DID YOU KNOW?
Weekend Warrior injuries are on the rise
The Center for Disease Control reports that over 10,000 people per day visit ERs for sports and exercise related injuries.
Here are a few tips on how NOT to be one of them.
Boring, we know. But this essential step helps elevate your heart rate gradually and warms the muscles. Result: you’re less likely to strain and injure yourself.
Don’t jump on your bike or board for the joy of the ride and forget your helmet. If your sport incorporates protective gear, wear it. And be aware of the good high-tech advances in gear (including specialized footwear) designed for your sport.
With exercise equipment, your gait when running, or your stance at the net, it’s important to be aware of and practice the best possible techniques. Good technique not only makes you better at what you do, it keeps you safe.
Listen to your body: do not push through a sharp pain.
We’re often taught to keep going past the pain. While you can push yourself when you’re tired and feel good later at the effort, never push through a sharp pain. Don’t turn a slight injury into a chronic injury that needs to be treated for months by your team at Peak Form!
Cool down and stretch
This is the step that frequently gets skipped: don’t skip it. A good 10-minute cool down brings your heart rate, breathing and blood pressure back to normal. Then stretch the main muscle groups for flexibility. Result: less post-exercise soreness and a better chance of avoiding injury in the future.
Talk to a Peak Form PT therapist about exercises specific to your sport and your stage in life. Get strong in the right places before you put yourself out there.
And if you do end up pushing yourself too hard, give us a call. We get it — we’ve been there! — and we can help.
