Are you feeling COVID-19 crazy? I am. It has been a roller coaster getting used to new work schedules, strategizing trips to the grocery store, not seeing friends and family, and the worst yet, no hugs. Rather than stewing in my cabin fever, I decided to distract myself. Luckily, it has helped me stay healthy and lose some COVID pounds.

I set a challenge to run the virtual New York Marathon in October. That’s 26.2 miles all in one go! I have run a few marathons in the past, but this one feels extra special. Having a goal has given me the motivation to be consistent with exercise, gets me out in fresh air, and clears my head. There’s a virtual marathon group so I can connect online with people from 150 other countries who are as motivated as I am to work towards a goal.

You don’t need to run a marathon, but we all need something to look forward to that helps us feel better. So, whatever brings you joy, do it! It could be something as simple as cooking a new recipe or picking up a new hobby. Don’t just say you are going to do it; set a measureable goal so can look back and say “you did it” when this pandemic is behind us.

I will be out on the streets of Boulder at the end of October visualizing running through the five boroughs of New York and feeling a great sense of accomplishment. What are you doing to take care of yourself during the pandemic? If you need some help or a nudge to create a wellness program, our amazing physical therapists are ready to help you.
